Despite dealing with the ghosts being a top priority for Naomi, she was still able to get through her classes without her fear affecting her. But by the end of the day, she was drained. She sat back in her chair, staring at the empty classroom and mentally prepared for another long visit to the library. Before she could leave, though, she was interrupted by someone she didnât want to see.
âHey, Naomi,â Sebastian said as he stepped into the classroom. âCan we talk?â
Naomi looked at him skeptically. The last thing she wanted to do was face his doubt in her. She didnât need that right now. She had enough to deal with as is. She needed all the support she could get.
The way he looked at her, though, seemed genuine. He seemed like he was ready to listen to her. It seemed like he was truly sorry.
âI was a jerk,â he admitted. âI discounted your feelings, I didnât take you seriously, and I responded to everything in a terrible way. I shouldâve been way more understanding and kinder about the whole thing.
âSure, itâs still difficult for me to accept the existence of ghosts. Iâm still not totally sure I can get behind that because it goes against everything I know. But the thing is, I donât have to believe in ghosts to support you. I donât have to have seen it for myself.
âYou believe thatâs what you saw, so Iâm ready to accept that and try to help you the best I can. I donât want you to feel alone in this. Iâm sorry I ever contributed to making you feel that way when I want to be a safe person you can go to if you need anything.â
Naomi considered his apology. He did seem genuine. He was saying all the right things. And she didnât want to be alone. She wanted his help.
âThank you,â she said, though it hurt her pride to say it. âI do appreciate that, and I guess I understand to some extent why you reacted the way you did. I wasnât exactly super open to believing Aziel when he told me about the ghost, either. Itâs a hard thing to fathom.â
âYou dealt with it better than I did, though,â Sebastian replied. âAt least based on what you told me, it sounds like you dealt with it how anyone should react to such an admission, even if they donât believe in whatever someone is telling them.
âI shouldâve listened to you and learned my lesson from that. You told me pretty much how I should respond, and I didnât take that into consideration. Iâm sorry for that.â
âItâs okay,â she assured him. âI appreciate you apologizing now. People canât be perfect all the time. It means a lot to me that you see it and are willing to look at things in a different light.â
âIâm more than willing,â Sebastian said. âI want to be a better friend to you. Iâm going to prove that. I was thinking, to
